Italian language and culture

In connection with the Italian Foreign Office and the Italian Department of Education the following Offices and Organizations promote the Italian Language and Culture in the Australian Territory (also through specific funds and sponsorships):


• Italian Embassy in Canberra, with a specific Educational and Cultural Office (supervision and organization of Cultural Events – Support to teachers of Italian)
• Italian Consulates in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane Adelaide, Perth
• Italian Cultural Institutes (IIC) in Sydney and Melbourne (organize cultural events and teach Italian)
• Local Agencies (Enti Gestori) who receive funds from Italy in order to support the teaching of Italian, both curricular and extra-curricular in agreement with local Departments of Education.
o Recruitment and contribution to the Teachers of Italian
o Teacher Training Courses
o Teaching Materials
o Recruitment of Language assistants
o Support to bilingual schools
• Lecturers of Italian Language and Culture in Australian Universities (University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, ANU in Canberra). They are appointed and paid by the Italian Government and teach in the Italian Departments.
• Societa’ Dante Alighieri, which is active through the Australian territory with the promotion of cultural events and the organization of language courses at any level for young people and adults.
